Large Attic pyxis with lid crowned by four horse figurines On display in the Museum of Cycladic Art in Athens.
The rest of the vase (including the base) is decorated with dense geometric motifs. Two small holes on the edge of the lid helped to fasten it onto the vase. Large pyxides are frequently found in aristocratic graves of the 8 c. BC.
The horses may have symbolized the privileged class of Hippeis (Knights).
